WappTidy ("the App") is a media cleaner and organizer for WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business media on Android, published by WebAppyPie ("we", "us"). Android package name: com.webappypie.wapptidy. This policy explains what the App accesses, how it is used, what stays on your device, and what is sent to other services. Questions: support@webappypie.com
WappTidy is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc. The App cannot read your WhatsApp chats and does not connect to WhatsApp's servers.
1. Summary
- WappTidy analyses your WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business media on your device. Your photos, videos, audio, voice notes, documents, thumbnails, file names and folder paths are not uploaded to WebAppyPie or anyone else by the App.
- No account or registration is needed. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Nothing is deleted without you. The App only deletes, moves or restores files after you confirm.
- The App does connect to the internet for: the in-app notifications list and optional push notifications, advertising (Free version), promotions, Google Play purchases, and a service-status check. Section 4 lists exactly what is sent.
- The App does not include analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- We do not sell personal information and do not use your media for advertising.
2. Information the App accesses on your device
Depending on your Android version, the permissions you grant and the features you use, WappTidy may access:
- WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business media and file information: photos, videos, audio, voice notes and documents, with their file name, size, date, type and location, so it can find, show and analyse them.
- Analysis results: file fingerprints (hashes) used to find exact duplicates, similarity data used to group near-identical photos, and blur scores.
- Data WappTidy stores locally: your selected media sources, settings, "Keep Forever" protected files, collections, swipe-review decisions, activity history, storage trend history, the scan index and your Premium status.
- Folders you choose to share: optionally the Android/media folder (WappTidy reads only the WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business folders inside it), and a destination folder where WappTidy creates a "WappTidy" folder for files you choose to move or copy.
- Whether WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business are installed. The App checks for exactly these two apps and does not read the list of your other apps.
All of this is processed and stored only on your device, in the App's private storage. It is never sent to us, to WAPCentral, to Firebase or to any other server.
3. How information is used
To discover and scan WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business media; find exact duplicates, similar photos, blurry photos, large videos, screenshots, old media, voice notes and documents; provide Swipe review, previews, Keep Forever protection, search, collections, the Storage Explorer and storage trends; move and copy files into your WappTidy folder after you confirm; show the Android Recycle Bin and restore files; run optional scheduled scans; show notifications you have chosen to receive; verify and restore Premium; show ads and promotions to Free users; and keep the App working and secure.
Optional scheduled scans run on your device through Android's background work system. They only look for cleanup suggestions; they never delete, move or change files.
4. Information that leaves your device
WappTidy's own online services are provided through WAPCentral (WebAppyPie), wapcentral.webappypie.com. In every case below, no media, file names, paths, thumbnails, chat content, contact names or group names are sent.
- Service-status check (WAPCentral). When the App starts or returns to the foreground, it asks whether the WappTidy service is available. The request contains the App's identifiers (app ID and app key), not information about you.
- In-app notifications list (WAPCentral). To load announcements and remember which ones you have read, the App sends a random device ID created on your phone, together with read status. This ID is not derived from your hardware, phone number, advertising ID or any account.
- Push notifications (WAPCentral and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging), optional and off by default. Only if you turn on "Announcements & updates", the App obtains a push token from Firebase Cloud Messaging and registers it with WAPCentral together with the random device ID and the platform (Android). Firebase Messaging does not create a token before you opt in.
- Advertising (Google AdMob), Free version only. The App asks WAPCentral for ad settings using only the App's identifiers. Google AdMob may then collect your advertising ID, IP address, ad interactions and device information (see section 8).
- Promotions (WAPCentral). To fetch a promotion, the App sends the app ID, app version, environment and platform. When a promotion is shown or tapped, it sends the campaign ID and app ID. No device ID is included.
- Purchases (Google Play). Google Play processes Premium purchases; the App receives only Google Play's confirmation that a purchase is valid.
- Network information. Like any internet request, these requests reveal your device's IP address and basic technical information (such as the time of the request) to the receiving server.
5. On-device media processing
Scanning, duplicate matching, similar-photo grouping, blur detection, previews, voice-note playback and storage breakdowns all run on your device. Results are stored in the App's private storage and are not uploaded. The App never deletes, moves or overwrites files on its own: every delete, move, copy and restore requires your confirmation, and Android itself asks you to confirm before a file is moved to the Recycle Bin.
On Android 11 and newer, deleted files go to Android's Recycle Bin, where Android keeps them for a limited time (normally about 30 days) before removing them. On Android 10 and older, and for hidden files reached through Android/media folder access, deletion is permanent and the App warns you first.
6. Permissions
- Photos and videos, Music and audio (
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES,READ_MEDIA_VIDEO,READ_MEDIA_AUDIO; on Android 12L and olderREAD_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): to find, show and analyse WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business media. - Selected photos access (
READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED, Android 14+): lets you share only some photos and videos; the App then works with just those. - Folder access you choose (Android folder picker, no permission): optional access to the Android/media folder and to a destination folder. Both can be removed at any time.
- Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+): only if you turn on storage alerts, scan reminders, tips or announcements. - Internet and network state: service status, the notifications list, optional push notifications, ads and promotions in the Free version, and Google Play purchases. Cleaning features work offline.
- Vibration: haptic feedback.
- Advertising ID (added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK): ads in the Free version.
WappTidy does not request "All files access" (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE), contacts, location, camera or microphone.
7. Notifications
- Local notifications: storage alerts, scan reminders and tips are created on your device from on-device scan results. Nothing is sent to a server to produce them. You can switch each type off in Settings, and quiet hours mute non-urgent notifications at night.
- In-app notifications list: announcements from WebAppyPie with an unread count, loaded as described in section 4.
- Push notifications: optional and off by default. Turning "Announcements & updates" off unregisters your device and deletes the push token.
- Announcements may contain a link. The App opens it only when you tap it.
8. Advertising and promotions
- The Free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google may collect and use your advertising ID, IP address, ad interactions (such as views and taps) and device and app information to show, measure and improve ads and to prevent fraud. Ads may be personalized or non-personalized depending on your consent.
- Consent: where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), the App shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and no ad is requested without the required consent. You can change your choice at any time under Settings > Ad privacy choices (shown where applicable).
- Ads are never shown inside delete or restore confirmations, permission steps or Swipe review.
- Premium removes ads. On a Premium device the App does not request ad settings and does not use the ad SDK.
- Promotions are labelled first-party messages from WebAppyPie, delivered by WAPCentral and not targeted at you personally. Each promotion is digitally signed by WebAppyPie and checked on your device before it is shown. In the Free version a promotion may appear on the Home screen; current promotions are also listed in Settings for all users.
- Your media, file names and paths are never passed to Google or anyone else for advertising.
9. Purchases
Lifetime Premium is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Google Play. Your payment details are handled by Google; WappTidy and WebAppyPie never receive your card or bank details. The App receives only Google Play's confirmation that the purchase is valid and uses it on your device to turn Premium on. "Restore purchases" asks Google Play for your existing purchases.
10. Third-party services
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and User Messaging Platform: ads and ad consent in the Free version. Policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: optional push notifications. Policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google Play Billing: Premium purchase and restore. Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- WAPCentral (WebAppyPie): service status, notifications list and push registration, ad settings and promotions. Covered by this policy.
The App does not include Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or any other analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Firebase Analytics collection is switched off in the App.
11. What we do not collect
- Your photos, videos, audio, voice notes, documents or their thumbnails.
- File names, folder paths, or text contained in your files.
- WhatsApp messages, chats, contact names, group names or phone numbers.
- Your name, email address, account credentials or precise location.
- Payment card or bank details.
12. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as described in this policy: with Google as the provider of advertising (AdMob), push delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and purchases (Google Play), and where required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and services.
13. Storage, retention and deletion
- On-device data stays until you clear it (Settings lets you clear analysis history and the scan cache) or uninstall the App, which removes all of its private data. Files you copied or moved into your WappTidy folder are your files and stay until you delete them.
- Push token: deleted when you turn off "Announcements & updates".
- Random device ID and read status on WAPCentral: kept while the App uses the notifications service on your device.
- Promotion impression and click counts contain no personal identifier.
- Ad data is retained by Google under its own policies.
- Support emails may be kept as reasonably needed to answer you, keep support records, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations.
- To ask us to delete data we hold about you, email support@webappypie.com. Because the App has no accounts, describe the device and the approximate dates you used the App so we can find it.
14. Security
WappTidy follows a local-first design and uses reasonable safeguards: on-device processing, storage in the App's private sandbox, HTTPS for all network requests, signature checks on promotions, and confirmation before every destructive file action. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
15. Children
WappTidy is a storage utility for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child sent personal information to us (for example through support), contact us and we will review and delete it where required.
16. Your choices and rights
Grant, limit ("selected photos") or revoke media access in Android Settings; remove Android/media folder access in Media sources and stop using the destination folder in Settings; turn local notifications and announcements on or off; decline or change ad consent where offered; reset your advertising ID in Android Settings; use Premium to remove ads; clear data or uninstall to remove local data; contact us to ask about data we hold.
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are: providing the service you use (notifications list, service status, purchases), your consent (push notifications, personalized ads where consent is required) and our legitimate interests (anonymous promotion counts, security and fraud prevention).
17. International processing
WAPCentral and Google may process the limited data described above on servers in countries other than yours. Where required, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards offered by the providers.
18. Changes
We may update this policy when the App, the law or our practices change. We will update the "Last updated" date and give further notice where required. If we add analytics, crash reporting, cloud backup, cloud processing or any SDK that collects additional information, this policy will be updated before release.
